Prison Break: Lay It Down Slow

Dear All,

As you might know I had been busy during this week and a reason of being busy that you might don’t know was Prison Break. After finishing my exams I had this strange feeling of watching the rest of Prison Break as I watched season one only. And during this week I watched season two, three and four.

I really don’t remember much of what I watched and don’t really care that much, as I wanted just to be up-to-date with what’s happening in the world including what people watch, not to live like a freaky stranger.

What touched me the most was, actually two ideas:

The Ending:

How the whole story turned out, made me look to the story as a practical life lesson, a very deep life lesson. I saw it as a reflection of justice in the situations of people involved. I believe people are born alike in their desire for good or bad and life is about decisions we make. At the end life will never settle down except with the good for the good and the bad for the bad, either in this life or thereafter.

Any challenge that we pass with in life should be looked at this way, and how right we do in it, is what determines how good things will turn out for us.

Human Relationships:

Human relationship still a very mysterious subject to me. Decisions you take in life that involve others need so much weighting to what’s valuable, what’s worthy and what is not. The fundamental idea of the show is the sacrifice of someone doing good in his life according to our standards, to help his innocent brother out of prison. Then getting back to help team mates, whom had been his enemies at some point.

A situation and a phrase in the show, even made me discover things still inside myself, and related to some situations I had been through. May be because growing up with a clean tongue, I wasn’t able to say it when I was supposed to. The guy’s reaction when he knew that it was a set up, made me laugh, in evil.

“You whore! You’re a whore, and your mother was a whore, and her mother, and your father used to turn tricks at a gas station, cause he was a whore too!”

Hey, I know it’s just a TV show, but still time investment on entertainment can get back to you with thoughts deeper than you imagine.

This is just a random post celebrating my freedom from Prison Break. And might blog more thoughts about it when I have a better chance.

Had to get busy, real productively busy right now.

if you got dreams in your heart
why don’t you share them with me?
and if dreams don’t come true
I’ll make sure that your nightmares
are through

if you got pain in your heart
why don’t you share it with me?
and we’ll just wait and see
if it’s half what it used to be

and lay it down slow
lay it down free
lay it down easy
but lay it on me

if you’ve got love in your heart
why don’t you keep it with mine?
I can’t promise a miracle
but I’ll always be trying

and lay it down slow
lay it down free
lay it down easy
but lay it on me

lay it down easy
lay it on me

lay it down easy
but lay it on me

Preparing for MarwaElSherbiny.com

Hi All,

This is just a quick notification that I’m working on MarwaElSherbiny.com a project supposed to be backed by volunteers to network the incident in which Dr. Marwa El-Sherbiny had been stabbed to death in a German court, her husband get severely injured and her 3 years old son witnessed the incident.

The site will be an up-to-date portal dedicated to Dr. Marwa, the updates of the incident and different feedback, articles, blogs from anyone have something valuable to say.

The site is being built with Joomla! in order to ease admin tasks and adding content for everyone.

Site sections:

  • About Us
  • About Dr. Marwa
  • The Murder (Detailed information about the case and its motives)
  • Formal Updates (Follow up with the case)
  • They Said (Blogs, Articles from anyone have something valuable to say)
  • Hijab (Illustrating the meaning of Hijab and why Muslim women wear it)
  • Community Builder (Members Profiles, Messages, Board .etc)
  • How to Support (What you can do for Marwa)

I hope to source the content in English and German, that’s why I’m contacting people who’s active or administering groups talking about the same issue. Hoping that they’ll be active on the site too.

Despite being shocked with the crime and the reactions, I didn’t blog about it YET, as I preferred to plan for a long term response that will have a continuous  impact, other than a one time blog post. Also, to have sufficient accurate information and read different points of view.

Details will be published soon, If you’re interested in participating in such project, please Contact Me ASAP.

Isn’t that racism??

Hi All,

Was taking some Facebook quizzes and everything was going funny and okay, till decided to take that “What’s your true age” quiz, where I had been asked for my race:

racism

Shouldn’t that be considered racism or Arabs and Middle Eastern people are classified as one of the above? Anyway, won’t take the quiz!! till getting answers!

I’m a Middle Eastern, Arab, Egyptian, why didn’t the quiz creator take that into consideration while making the quiz?!!

Imperfections!

Hi Everyone,

Imperfect

Today, thought about a theme I sensed in everything I do lately, imperfect, while I’m capable of making it better. That’s why during that month, August, I’ll be trying to sort out the clutter in my life and start over especially with the business site relaunch with more determination and more organized.

I can frankly say, for me, it’s not about lack of intelligence, qualifications or even time. It’s just emotions which was driving me to a “Whatever!” and “Who cares” attitudes!

But, hey,  you’ll still be impressed by the stuff I do, despite these imperfections.

An Arabic poet once said:

I never saw among people’s imperfections, and imperfection like, producing things incompletely while you’re capable of making it complete.

MIT Open Course Ware – English Course

Hi There,

I’m finishing up a 4 sessions, English Listening, Speaking and Pronunciation course available online for free via MIT Open Course Ware, which is pretty amazing, I remember first time our professor told us about the Open Course Ware, I bookmarked it, but never had the time to check it out. And just went through these 4 sessions during the last week.

I already went through such English courses on my own before, so it was some kind of emphasizing on what I know, clarifying some ambiguous points, and some practising, plus of course added an in class experience. Of course, the way the class is being ran is totally different that the classes I attend here, so good to know how normal people are supposed to learn.

I highly recommend the MIT Open Course Ware to everyone, plus every knowledge available online for free. I’ll try to bookmark similar sources and make it available here, at least the ones I had been using recently, Insha’ Allah.

Best of luck everyone 🙂

TouchTyping – Typing Speed

Hey There,

I just went through a typing test after years with no serious testing, I remember, during high school  I was happy getting to 50 word per minute with 98% accuracy (touch typing) and during final year’s exams I get around 55 (That was 5 years ago). And yes, I was practicing till even a few hours before the exam, may be thought about learning something beneficial!

Wikipedia Says:

In one study of average computer users, the average rate for transcription was 33 words per minute, and only 19 words per minute for composition.[1] In the same study, when the group was divided into “fast”, “moderate” and “slow” groups, the average speeds were 40 wpm, 35 wpm, and 23 wpm respectively.

An average professional typist reaches 50 to 70 wpm, while some positions can require 80 to 95 (usually the minimum required for dispatch positions and other typing jobs), and some advanced typists work at speeds above 120.

A few days ago, I went through a typing test and got the results:

Cool typing speed, but not so good accuracy, I can say that taking the exams isn’t the normal state to evaluate touch typing speed, as you’ll be going naturally for the highest speed, so, normally when you’re typing you don’t actually type in this speed.

Can also say that in the test you type from the text you see in the screen, so that take some time to proceed in your mind other than writing directly from your mind.

Anyway, I’ll be refining my typing skills, especially for DeveloperMan‘s upcoming video tutorials.

Remember that you can have a free typing test from here: http://www.typingtest.com/

Ramadan #MuslimUnity Campaign

NOTE: Campaign moved to https://www.abdomagdy.com/unity This page isn’t updated anymore.

Asalamo Alikum Everyone,

Some of you already know that I presented a plan to go through the topic of unity between Muslims from a while and didn’t continue for personal reasons (Link: https://www.abdomagdy.com/2009/05/lessons-in-unity-outlines/ ). Also, some of you know that I started MarwaElSherbiny.com and didn’t continue for similar reasons. Plus, frankly, I got no response from nearly everyone I contacted and wasn’t possible to handle everything myself (Link: https://www.abdomagdy.com/2009/07/preparing-for-marwa-el-sherbiny-com/ ).

Thinking about Ramadan this year and chatting with some friends about the topic, I thought about having a business-free Ramadan, that means that I’m going to suspend my business activities during Ramadan and will launch a campaign instead during the whole month that will cover both topics unity and Marwa El-Sherbiny in a one campaign mainly on Twitter and of course using other social media tools.

I didn’t make an effective use of my YouTube channel so far as I didn’t have the time, but during Ramadan; I’m going to get involved more with the Muslim community there and going to finish the unity series I planned to finish, Insha’ Allah.

This is just to let you know that, I’m going through a #muslimunity campaign via Twitter and I already started inviting people, people already involved are:

@MarwaElSherbiny, @HichamMG, @slashnews, @skinny_legs, @rockinrose, @egGooner, @ReemAlashry, @habzm, @AyubiSalahin, @IslamicInsights, @abdo_me, @DeveloperMan, @EgyptDesigners, @Egypreneur, @aladham, @Helwaan, @SineMuslim, @rildenia, @ibrahimsuheyl, @786Khadija2, @reeem, @MhdBadi, @Sunset87, @AyubiSalahin, @LoveHopeFear, @yazzie_me, @reihab, @DrDheenaSadik, @Amir_HealthGuru, @HijabiApprentic, @rinimaru, @skyhakim, @shukr

The campaign is going to be led anonymously through @MarwaElSherbiny Twitter account and will be centered by MarwaElSherbiny.com, the gesture is that Marwa El-Sherbiny who died for her Hijab and persistence to defend her rights is leading Muslims to unity during Ramadan.

The goal of the campaign is to bring the HashTag #MuslimUnity to the top of the HashTags of the month of Ramadan. HashTags is the term used on Twitter.com for campaigns. Check the last month’s top tags: http://hashtags.org/trends/month We want #MuslimUnity on the top during Ramadan! Can we?? Why not?? Why is that important? will reply to that ASAP.

More information about Twitter HashTag campaigns could be found here: http://twitter.pbworks.com/Hashtags Details to be out soon Insha’ Allah.

Outcome from the campaign:

  • Self confidence in Muslim Unity especially the young ages who’s involved in social media
  • Extreme PR effect by grabbing the world of New Media to read #MuslimUnity at the top of Twitter HashTag
  • Networking the cause of Marwa El-Sherbiny and communicating ideas about Hijab and Muslims in the west

What to practically do??? assuming that you’re already using Twitter, if not, easily crate a Twitter account (Video tutorials illustrating everything to be released soon).

  1. Follow @MarwaElSherbiny on Twitter
  2. Follow @HashTags on Twitter (VERY IMPORTANT) for the tags to be picked by the engine!
  3. Add #MuslimUnity in some of your Tweets during Ramadan (ones that encourage unity between Muslims).
  4. Follow all the participants in the campaign on Twitter (URLs above)
  5. RT any content that’s encouraging unity between Muslims (specific tweets will be available here soon Insha’ Allah)
  6. Search for latest uses of the HashTag from Here (Link: http://twitter.com/#search?q=%23MuslimUnity )
  7. Tell everyone you know about the campaign and engage with the campaign with your full power

Tawakalto Alaa Allah.

UPDATE: content will be moved from here to MarwaElSherbiny.com as the campaign get to a more solid state and I find sometime too!!

Happy Birthday Birgit :)

Hi Everyone,

We ‘connect’ with a lot of people online. But, the depth of that ‘connection’ varies widely.  I personally felt a special connection with ‘Birgit Gerlach‘ as she had been very kind and supportive to me and everyone around her.

Happy Birthday Birgit and wishing all the best in the years to come.

Premiere Pro Interpreting Problem with MP4s

Hi Everyone,

As you might know I was intending to progress with all projects that I’m running now with online video as the most effective online marketing tool and also I had some awesome ideas including the ‘Lessons In Unity’ series.

As I was considering online video for business too, I went through 12 hours of professional training for Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 from Lynda (Essentials | Beyond) which I used for the production of some videos and theoretically speaking I do have advanced skill level in understanding and utilizing its features.

Recently, I posted the following entry at VideoMaker forum, looking for a solution to the problem hindering me from producing videos in satisfactory quality so far:

http://videomaker.com/community/forums/topic/premiere-interpreting-problem-with-mp4s

——

Hi,

I’m using Samsung SC-MX20 to capture videos for the web, that specific Camcorder does have a known problem with 16:9 videos, you can check the reviews @ amazon.com for details

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SC-MX20-Memory-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B001FA1OHW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252801263&sr=8-2

The problem that the videos that’s supposed to be taken @ 16:9 is being read as 4:3 by every software and had to modify the aspect ratio to get it right.

So practically speaking when I import the video I’ve shot @ 16:9 (better for YouTube .etc) using the camcorder to Premiere it shows as 4:3, to fix that using Premiere I right click and chose interpret footage > modify aspect ratio to 1.2 and the video shows as 16:9 >> Great!

The problem is that If I made any editing to the video the display start behaving very strangely and add some green to the track, that mean for me that it’s not being interpreted correctly. Check the photo link below

Wondering if anyone have some experience with something similar and can help. Video are saved from the cam compressed with H.264 in MP4 format.

Thanks in advance.

– Abdo

——

Well, recording some 4:3 videos this morning I realized that the problem with every video coming from that Camcorder, so till that problem get fixed, I’m using the Cyberlink MediaShow software that came with the camcorder which produce the video in a poor quality and doesn’t have all the features I need to produce my videos in a proper quality!

If anyone has any suggestions, solutions or know any experts. That’s would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Egypreneur – Vlogging Phase

Hey Everyone,

This is just to inform everyone that I started a new phase with Egypreneur – the project that was supposed to be active more than a year ago. And just like everything else you find yourself in need of a long list of requirements to proceed with it.

Egypreneur or (Egyptian Entrepreneur Support Network) was started on Ning http://egypreneur.ning.com with very limited interaction since June, 2008. That was the announcement (here)

The project is supposed to be a social business network for Egyptian young entrepreneurs just like myself, the network itself is still in the development phase, well, it’s just a matter of some free time to get it sorted out. Plus, till then the project is active on the following Social Media facilities + the project blog currently in the home page http://www.egypreneur.com :

Facebook Group: http://groups.to/Egypreneur

Facebook Page: http://facebook.com/Egypreneur

Twitter: http://twitter.com/Egypreneur

YouTube: http://youtube.com/Egypreneur

The new phase will include online videos, presented by myself and anyone else interested and have something beneficial to say. The first video had been live yesterday, well, check the last post if you’re wondering about the poor quality of the video!

Watch on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IsQ_lhYNc4

So, I’ll be seeking to make videos and get the project known and lead the interaction through these videos. Will be making contacts and some PR work with business professionals who might have something to say or some help to offer.

But as you know me, If I didn’t move no body will, so, I flaw with the pants of my seat as usual and will go for it.

Will keep you posted and you give me some feedback, please!

El-Shazly – Modern time hero and role-model

Hey Everyone,

I had been searching for a role model, even unconsciously most of the time. But frankly. I never get impressed by a personality in our modern time enough to motivate and inspire me to be and do better.

Recently, after watching Aljazeera’s “Witness to the age” (Arabic: شاهد علي العصر) I get impressed by that man and found some similarities that might encourage me to make him a real role model.

I’m in the process of reading his book(s) and proud to have such example in our modern Egyptian history!

There is a website http://el-shazly.com includes very interesting information about himself and introduces his books/articles, I get to know him as a person- after some basic information reading about Operation Badr from different sources – through the 10 episodes. I created a Playlist on YouTube includes the 10 videos: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D9A843498AFDDCD9

Frankly, lately I was getting impressed by Sadat out of his speeches, but understanding the details of his life and Operation Badr made me swing to El-Shazly but still maintain respect to Sadat, no one is perfect but some mistakes is different than others!

Participating in Robocon

Hey There,

You know that I’m supposed to be studying Engineering, Mechanical Design and Production specifically. Actually, my focus in the last 3 years had been business-wise and the skill set I was investing in the most had been everything had to do with the web & business.

I think during that time I didn’t focus on my Engineering skills, you might know that studying at FOE Cairo University, doesn’t give a lot of space for “skills” to develop, other than solving equations and memorizing formulas!

So, Engineering-wise I was planning to somehow work/study Mechatronics Engineering and make it my future career, of course while taking care of the business, or more intelligently delegating that to someone while maintaining ownership. I got some books from the Evil Genius series from a while and decided to get closer to Electronics the upcoming year.

Anywayz, There is an annual competition called ABU Robocon, that’s going to be held this year in Cairo, I joined a team in the faculty and meeting daily from a few days to plan on how to sort things out, participating in the competition, I was lucky to join a team with colleges who previously participated in Robocon last year, they practically didn’t achieve anything, but have good experience. All the team members are really awesome! Zizo, Hussein, Ghandor, Islam, Hussein and myself with the mentor TA Eng. Mohamed Omar.

Competition Website: http://roboconegypt2010.com

While my focus is going to be Mechanical-wise in the project, I’ll appreciate the opportunity to get closer to the Electronics and Control part of making robots too and I think that’s going to be my long-awaited introduction to Mechatronics.

The competition itself is illustrated here:

I’m living a life of an Engineering student though, reading books, watching videos from different universities and soon to get down to Electronics Market / Mechanical Workshops to get / manufacture what we need for the robots.

Wish us good luck 🙂

Lifestyle Shift, Can We?

Hi Everyone,

Had been a long while since I posted something on my personal blog here, may be I was active more on Twitter but my lifestyle and way of thinking was hindering me from giving sufficient concentration to things that’s supposed to matter to me.

I’m undergoing a major change in responsibilities and goals, that puts me on constant pressure and sometimes leave me with some guilt not giving everyone what he/she might expect either from my personal time or business performance.

I’m from that type who think and plan a lot in a very sharp, practical way and then execute the plan in a sharper more persistent attitude. Also, I’m considerably hard to satisfy as of the quality of things I deliver, clients get satisfied and leave amazing lovely testimonials, while I’m leaving my eye with the details that could be enhanced in some sort..

Since I’m down for business – which completed 3 years last October, I think I was going with that attitude. I think I need to stop and think now; reorganize my priorities and expectations from my own self.

Also, professionally speaking, I had a geeky attitude in business in the last 3 years, I was so much into technicalities and getting attached to my own stuff. I’m currently getting more into making deals and finding what works right for my goals.

I need to take a break, perhaps not a short one to come out with a new attitude, organizing my personal papers/goals and get to my goals with the required persistent.

I’ll be heading to Alex for a few days in a trail to be with myself, thinking and going through my experience in the last 3 years, extracting lessons and deciding on a new attitude and altered lifestyle I’ll continue the next few moths with Insha’ Allah.

Wondering if you can help me with situations from your own experience? Can you relate to that?

Have you tried something similar before?

Were you able to alter your way of thinking, attitude and daily habits and what helped you in doing so?

Will keep you posted .. deep thoughts regarding the issue might be coming, though!

Back on Track – A New Online Phase

Hi All,

I had to start a new phase of my online communication or – in other words – get back to the plan in which this blog and other activities started.

Getting connected to online groups for a long time or investing emotional energy within it proved to be the easiest way to waste your time, value, dignity and emotional energy.

I stood in amazement of the reactions and implications had been directed to me within an online community on Twitter after expressing who am I and even after some agrees to what I said. Giving no reactions to offenses directed to their “brother” but involving in it and making fun of him with whatever way possible; could never be an acceptable behavior – at least not for me.

While the internet provides a valuable platform to initiate valuable friendships and build interesting communities, its tools give a wide spectrum of possibilities to cover behind it and stab people from behind in an extremely unethical way and still – no one will know, we’re just having fun!

Seeing how a tiny situation can expose the substance of some people, was extremely clear to me the last few days. I must always remember the talk I had with Adel Nada about classifications of ethics: essential ethics, social ethics and religious ethics and how evaluating our relationships with people should be based on the understanding of the difference between them. Lived it and saw it in absolute details!

Religious ethics is presenting ourselves as religious individuals using some phrases, expressions and models of behavior that’s known within a community to express a religious belief/belonging/habits. Just like using “alhamdulillah”, “God bless you brother”, “Pray for me” and such.

How easily could such patterns of behavior be faked? Or not faked, but not to be a true expression of who that person truly is. While doubting people’s intentions is a red line should never be crossed at any case, we proceed in our relationships with people according to the behavior we see. Religious ethics is not the basis in which you should build your relationships offline or online.

Social ethics is adhering to the standard, acceptable behavior within a community and care about your “persona” or how you look to people, how you position yourself within a community and accordingly adhering to the community’s behavior, if people are talking about football, how much of a football fan you look, will give you more acceptance within that community.

I remember drafting some thoughts about Gomaa preachers and the idea of how hard they attack some people or pray (Make Doa’ ) against others – make them look so righteous to the audience, I remember a simple man I knew – asking me for my opinion about how great the (Khotba) had been today and how great the sheick giving it, I nodded my head and smiled, avoiding a pointless discussion about how great isn’t a matter of how hard I attack people I don’t know about or present ideas and information that I didn’t verify or even double-checked.

The social ethics that makes you acceptable within a community – isn’t what makes you a good friend or a good person. May be sometimes it’s the absolute opposite.

Looking to the life of prophets including prophet Mohamed PBUH, look how they had been regarded as socially unethical in their corrupt communities.

Even look to prophet Lot – when he expressed his refusal to people’s behavior which had been up to gay sex – they doomed him as socially unethical person! And what they said:

And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify (themselves). [07:82 Holy Qur’an]

So, evaluating your relationships based on how socially ethical the person you’re dealing with; will put you on a great error if the acceptable behavior within that community is unacceptable itself.

But when we come down to essential ethics, it’s the true basis in which we should build our relationships, essential ethics is honesty, straightforwardness, keeping promises never to betray, back-bit, back-stab, deceive or manipulate the person you’re communicating with.

Islamically speaking, does our religion gave an extensive care to religious ethics, ignoring social and essential ethics. Absolutely the opposite.

Prophet said the best of among you in Gahiliah – before Islam – are the best among you in Islam. Why because these people do have the essential ethics very clear so as to altering their religious ethics and social ethics would be an easy process after which their goodness as human beings will keep putting them above those who just took care of their religious ethics.

The holy Qur’an put so much emphasis on the essential ethics saying in Surat Al-Hujraat:

6: O you who believe! if an evil-doer comes to you with a report, look carefully into it, lest you harm a people in ignorance, then be sorry for what you have done.

Meaning: Beautifully saying to verify, ensure and double check the information we get from others to avoid hurting some innocent people and get sorry for believing those who told us afterward.

11: O you who believe! let not (one) people laugh at (another) people perchance they may be better than they, nor let women (laugh) at (other) women, perchance they may be better than they; and do not find fault with your own people nor call one another by nicknames; evil is a bad name after faith, and whoever does not turn, these it is that are the unjust.

12: O you who believe! avoid most of suspicion, for surely suspicion in some cases is a sin, and do not spy nor let some of you backbite others. Does one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? But you abhor it; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, surely Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), Merciful. [49:12 Holy Qur’an]

In this single chapter of the holy Qur’an emphasis had been put of on behavior within interpersonal relationships, that makes what we labeled as essential ethics in this post.

That had been the logic behind me leaving the online community I was happily sharing with throughout the last 3 months, starting from the #MuslimUnity campaign (Link: https://www.abdomagdy.com/unity ) and relying on them as a support group afterward, sharing personal information, worries and goals and supporting anyone might need help.

To be continued …

Paraliminal session for exams by Dr. Ahmed Emara [Arabic]

Hey Everyone,

We all get stressed during exams times especially provided the education system and attitude we have in our country, Egypt.

I used to get stressed during exams time as I prefer to focus on business and leave studies to the last few days before the finals, that’s very difficult with complex engineering subjects that need ongoing practice on solving problems and accordingly that got me over-stressed and my performance wasn’t that good.

As they say; attitude is everything. How we act is a direct result of how we feel which is resulted from what we believe in and what’s going on in our minds, If we can find away to change how we feel about the situation and ourselves, we can break free from stress and perform to the best of our ability.

I came across a very interesting paraliminal session from Dr. Ahmed Emara especially made for students under exams pressure. If you don’t know what a paraliminal session is, I was first introduced to it through LearningStrategies and they have something to say about it here:

Me on DeviantART?

Salam Everyone,

Hey congratulate me people, I made some progress with my DeviantART account, it’s funny that after so long I finally updated my Avatar!! For me –  as I posted before about transition from a Geek to a normal human being (Post: https://www.abdomagdy.com/2009/11/lifestyle-shift-can-we/ ) DeviantART should be a part of this transition.

I remember when someone who has passion for Art showed me some designs there, I said wow, look at the license it’s CC, that might be suitable for a project I’m working on. That reflects the attitude of the geek/business-man I had for the last three years, must say having that attitude was the right thing to have and I’m happy with where it brought me practically, having my own company and demonstrating high level of technical knowledge and professionalism at work.

While I’m not an artist and not even a wannabe one, I’m just getting into it for well-being and tasting things, which is a quality practical people might lose with time if they don’t allow the time to explore it. I’m currently more about web and software interface design, photo retouching and maybe photography in the near future.

Feel free to connect with me there: http://amagdy.deviantart.com

Reaching Out – Online Networking

Hi Everyone,

This is a speech I delivered at Cairo ToastMasters club June, 23. The speech title had been “reaching out” and it was my 3rd speech at the competent communicator track, where the speech’s objective is “get to the point”.

So getting to the point here, the general purpose of the speech had been to make the audience aware of the fundamentals of networking and internet marketing. The specific purpose was to encourage the audience to effectively utilize social networks in their daily life, whether for expressing their political opinions, marketing their businesses or positioning themselves as competent professionals in their fields.

Notice that writing for a speech is different that writing an article and the style – in my case – is going according to the requirements in the project’s manual.

Introduction

Since the beginning of mankind and formation of communities, people were seeking to reach out to others. The criteria that made some people more powerful than the rest was their ability to reach out to the public and spread their ideas, winning people’s trust and taking the lead in forming the identity of their communities.

No one can deny that the internet is the largest community ever known to mankind, and these principles does apply to the internet. Let’s take a look to some practical incidents that recently proved that. The Iranian elections, wasn’t the protests first reported on Twitter before even the mainstream media know about it.

War on Gaza, when the Israeli Army denied the western media from entering Gaza during the massacres, wasn’t these massacres reported Live! on YouTube, Facebook and other social networks? Not getting so far away from Egypt, the 6th of April movement in Egypt, wasn’t it started on Facebook and created one of the most politically striking movements by the Egyptian youth?

Let me tell you something very recent and I attended it myself, the white house was managing a chat room using Acrobat Connect with average 400 participant during Obama’s speech in Cairo, and that chat room was marketed via Facebook Ads. Plus, during the speech if you were on YouTube, you’d notice that upper banner with a link to the Live! speech.

Let’s see how sxephil a 23 years old guy, was able to have more than 400,000 subscribers on YouTube, and how his content usually reach more than 1 Million viewer per week. Also, through the internet people build their full time freelancing career, and ecommerce businesses is being started everyday.

All these incidents and more prove the importance of the internet as an effective marketing tool, and does prove to us that the investment that we’ll make to explore how to effectively utilize social media for spreading our ideas is really worthy.

We’ll go through 4 main steps we should all do in order to effectively use social media to achieve our goals:

Be There

Being on social networks is free, quick and easy. Creating an account in the networks that’s relevant to the one’s interests is the first step for anyone planning to effectively utilize the power of the internet to pursue his/her goals.

Participate

Joining doesn’t mean a lot, if you’re not planning to participate with quality content that’s relevant to your network’s interests. Since you’re there it’s an investment of time and effort you put to produce quality content, from your own ideas and inspirations.

As content is king; the quality of your content will determine how far you’ll reach within the community.

Engage

Producing your own content, will usually result in being anxious for people to read and interact with your content. That might result in spamming people with content they’re not interested in. So the solution to that is to engage with the community, read their content and interact, your content will be most likely to be noticed.

Example of that, is replying to a popular YouTube video with a relevant reply, commenting on Facebook status messages .etc

Personalize

People will always be touched by genuine individuals and content, so going all the way to marketing might result in being impersonal in communication, while in actuality, you’re supposed to maintain a personal touch in all your content and interactions as people either buy or get convinced by people who they have some kind of emotioal connection with.

Conclusion

The internet provides a valuable framework, if smartly utilized, it can enormously help you achieve your personal, professional or business goals.

Thanks everyone and happy networking.

Reaching Out (2) – Starting an Online Business

Hi All,

This speech had been delivered by myself July, 21, at Cairo ToastMasters club.It was my 4th speech at the competent communicator track where my objective was “How To Say It” so while preparing this speech my main emphasis was picking the right words and forming the right phases and getting away from using jargon or difficult words. This speech is supposed to be from five to seven minutes.

By the way, I’ll rewrite the content in more details and publish it and make Vlogs about it in the future, really delivering these speeches inspired me with some business ideas that I’ll be executing in the coming few months. here, on DeveloperMan and Al-Adham Web Solutions.

Introduction

Last time we stated general points in reaching out to people on the internet and gave basic steps you had to follow in order to be successful in your online communication using different social networks. Let’s remember, it was “Be there, participate, engage and then personalize” Last Speech

This time, we’ll explore a new model of what’s called online businesses, where there is no physical office and business is totally being ran online by a freelancer or a team of freelancers. The same ideas apply to a company trying to expand its client-base through the internet.

This business model is found to be convenient by designers, programmers, IT professionals, writers and consultants.

There is 4 major steps that you should follow to run a successful online business.

Present

The first obvious step in running a successful online business is to have a strong online presence, that’s a website; the idea about your business is being reflected through your website, putting a small investment on getting your website done professionally will save a lot of troubles on the long run.

Having your own domain name is essential; it’s strange seeing some people still seeking to run online businesses using a freely hosted blogs or websites, investing $10 and getting your own domain name and email, is an essential step to run a successful online business. So, present yourself professionally, chose the right domains and create the right email addresses.

I remember when I was having a “computer networks” course with participants who were elder than me, I was eighteen at this time and most of them were at their mid or late twenties. We exchanged our contact information, and I gave them my fancy email at this time which was abdo37_sk3, the next session I accidentally heard a discussion where someone was asking have you added them, not all, look at that email, what an idiot! Why should I add him!

After that, I got my emails sorted out professionally, so having your own domain and emails will not only give your audience the smell of professionalism, but will save you from being labeled as an idiot too.

Seek

It’s not hard to get a professional online presence, it’s usually very quick and affordable, the difference is made by the marketing plan this online business will utilize to reach out to people.

Having a few pages about your business, won’t be more than getting some other pages stuck on the already dense internet, if it’s not backed by a strong marketing plan. The ultimate goal from marketing an online business should be putting your website in front of interested prospects’ eyes. The most famous techniques are:

The regular PR work: building relations with other already popular sites, adding the site to business directories

Paid advertising: where you can seek to show your website to a specific group of people filtered by age, gender or location interested in something specific.

SEO or search engines optimization: is helping your website being found by prospects searching for a certain keyword that you chose to optimize the website for.

Involve

The next step would be getting the visitors involved with the site the moment they see it to ensure it won’t be just a onetime visit. The repetition of the marketing message is what will convince those visitors to become interested and finally use your services. Some tools that are being used to involve visitors with the site are:

Newsletter: Is collecting visitors’ emails and sending them regular Email updates about your business, which is being considerably replaced by the next point.

Business blogs: Where articles and updates are being posted regularly on a part of the website and the audiences get involved with that content, by commenting and interacting.

Widgets: Involving people would be by finding where they frequently are, for example if they’re using Facebook regularly why not to make a Facebook page to your business and interact with them on it, you’ll find these widget things that will help you connect your site or blog with other famous networks where it’ll be much more easier for people to involve with you.

Manage

Congratulations, you’re now winning projects, and people are asking you to get their projects done. There is a lot of online communication and project management tools that will help you manage your projects effectively, starting from an IM and VoIP service like Skype, through which you can chat and talk with your clients to full project management tools and client management applications, where the client can check all the information about his project on a certain part of your website.

Conclusion

Through these four steps professional presentation, seeking the right audience, involving and engaging visitors and getting them interested in your service and finally managing the projects and the client communication the right way.

We could now, congratulate you on joining the league of successful online entrepreneurs.

Thanks
